VISUAL ART:
Ruth's personal work explores the practice of philosophy through aesthetics. The main areas of which, explore fundamental questions of existence and knowledge. These include ontology (the nature of existence and being), metaphysics (the nature of reality), cosmology (the origin and structure of the universe) and their relation to epistemology (the limits of human knowledge).
"I use art as a philosophical tool to interrogate the construction of reality. Using digital methods and viewing devices, I explore the metaphysical nature of space. Disassembling meaningful scientific images by pushing them through mirrored viewing devices such as the kaleidoscope results in striking visual forms; motifs that are geometric, symmetric, iconic, pervasive. The resulting patterns stand as a symbol of belief; becoming icons of the dissonant gap between what we see and what we know".
