FINE ART:
Ruth's personal work explores the practice of philosophy through aesthetics. The main areas of which, explore fundamental questions of existence and knowledge. These include: ontology (the nature of existence and being), metaphysics (the nature of reality), cosmology (the origin and structure of the universe), ethics, and their relation to epistemology (the limits of human knowledge).
“Human beings like to map the universe. “We create diagrams and labels, patterns and theories in a quest to make sense of the world around us. But every time we do this, weare indirectly and unconsciously creating a model of our own perception. We are, in effect, creating a 'blueprint of consciousness'”.
Ruth uses art to interrogate the construction of reality. Using digital methods and mechanical viewing devices, she explores the nature of space in a metaphysical context. Complex processes result in the creation of new, strikingly simple forms; motifs that are geometric, iconic and pervasive. The resulting work stands as a symbol of belief; an icon of the dissonant gap between what we see and what we know.
“I'd like my work to contain a transformative element - if it opens up questions and possibilities on the nature of existence, it creates a tension that's dislocating and empowering at the same time”.
